MK Dons manager Robbie Neilson insists the lack of variety in Scottish football is a factor in players moving to England after signing Aberdeen winger Peter Pawlett on a pre-contract.
Pawlett will join former Hearts boss Neilson’s League One outfit on a two-year deal this summer after turning down the offer of a new deal and a testimonial at Pittodrie.
And Neilson reckons not having to play the same team four times a season south of the border is a refreshing change.
Neilson said: “It’s more diverse in England, sometimes in Scotland you can play the same team six, eight times a season, whereas down here’s it’s different all the time.
“There’s a freshness about it as well. I think it’s attractive to players to come down here and take that next step in their career, but also it’s a change.
“There’s a lot of big teams in this league. You see some of the crowds these teams pull.
“It’s also a great platform for these players to come down, do well and hopefully progress with the team into the Championship and beyond. The facilities down here are great and it’s a good lifestyle as well.
“Peter’s had a really good career up in Scotland and played a lot of games at a real high level. He’s played Europa League games and he’s been in cup finals. He just feels he’s ready to make the next step.”
