Recuperating pigeon flies to freedom – and straight under car’s wheels

A SHOCKING video shows the moment a pigeon is given its “freedom” – only to fly straight into the path of a car.

The unfortunate bird had been looked after for a week and was ready to be released back into the wild.

The carer can be heard telling the pigeon to “fly my little friend” as the bird takes off.

The creature appears to struggle to gain height and goes under the wheels of a passing car.

The unfortunate footage has gone viral online, gaining over 5,400 retweets and over 8,500 likes since it was posted on Twitter yesterday.

The pigeon takes off after being looked after for a week

The nine-second clip was uploaded by student Morgan Shipley with the caption: “Someone from work sent me this video of the pigeon they’ve been looking after for a week, oh my god.”

It’s not clear where the video was taken but it’s thought that it may be near Farnborough, Hampshire, from Morgan’s Twitter posts.

The clip starts with the person behind the camera saying “freedom” as the pigeon walks in front.

The voice then says: “Fly my little friend, fly,” as the camera gets closer to the bird.

The pigeon then darts away and starts to fly, however, it stays really low to the ground and narrowly avoids a post in its path.

The impending doom then becomes clear as a blue car drives along the road of the nearby retail park, in the direction of the pigeon.

But it flies straight into the path of a nearby car

The person behind the camera lets out a shriek of shock as the sickening thud of the pigeon against the car’s body work can be heard.

The footage ends with car continuing to drive along although Morgan later confirmed in the video’s comments that the “bird lived”.

Twitter users have been quick to react to the clip.

Amina Kareem wrote: “Feel like crying that is horrible.”

Danielle Brown commented: “Oh my god, that’s the best video I’ve ever seen.”

Charlotte Jones added: “Should not be laughing as much as I am.”

Whilst Angel Jansen asked: “Do I laugh or do I cry?”
