Scotland internationalist Matt Phillips has emerged as a major doubt for March’s double header against Canada and Slovenia after picking up a hamstring injury.
The West Brom winger missed the weekend’s win over Bournemouth and is set to undergo a scan on Wednesday to discover the severity of the problem.
With five goals and eight assists for the Baggies this season, the 25-year-old has been tipped to earn a recall for the March 22 friendly clash with Canada at Easter Road and crucial World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Hampden four days later.
Pulls said: “He’ll have another scan on Wednesday to see how it is. It was too much of a risk on Saturday and we didn’t want to lose him further down the line.
“It was a big disappointment because the way Bournemouth play, they’re a very open and expansive team and that grass they leave behind them, it would have been perfect for him. I was really disappointed he was injured.”
Scotland and West Brom captain Darren Fletcher is expecting the four-times capped forward to be included in the squad, saying: “I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t.”
