FALKIRK striker Lee Miller reckons becoming a coach has made him a better player.

The former Aberdeen and Bristol City marksman is learning the ropes off the pitch as Alan Maybury’s assistant with the Bairns’ under-20s side and is loving every moment of the role.

The 33-year-old admits it has opened his eyes to parts of the game he never even thought about earlier in his career.

And, hoping he still has a few more seasons left as a player, the Scotland cap believes he can put his new ‘insight’ to good use in his remaining years on the pitch.

Miller, currently in the midst of studying for his UEFA A Licence, told @CCP_sport: “I do really like the coaching I’m doing. I’m really enjoying the experience and it’s good to get an insight into a manager’s thoughts.

“It makes me look at the game totally different. Honestly, I don’t know what I’ve done with my time over the past few years!

“It’s a really good insight into different formations, tweaking systems and reading your players’ body language.

“Loads of things come into it and I’ve never really looked at the game from that point of view.

“It 100 per cent makes me more understanding of decisions managers have to make.

“You definitely see loads more when you think of the game from a coach’s point of view.

“A lot of players have that in their nature anyway, but I didn’t. I concentrated more on my own game.

“But it has opened my eyes to the coaching side of it and it’s been really beneficial.”

GELLING

Miller has been leading the line in recent weeks as Falkirk have pieced together a six-match unbeaten run in the league to lift them into third in the table.

Depending on the result between top-four rivals Dundee United and Morton, Peter Houston’s men could move into second with a win over Dumbarton on Saturday afternoon.

But Miller knows that will be easier said than done against a Sons team that won 2-1 the last time the teams met in December.

Miller added: “Things have been great. We’ve been playing really well, we’ve been gelling well together as a team.

“It’s working really well and obviously the results have shown that of late.

“But Dumbarton are a difficult opponent, they always have been.

“They beat us at their home patch a few months back, so we’ll be taking them seriously, don’t worry about that.”
