DEAN Brett has been made to wait for a decision on his Cowdenbeath future after a disciplinary hearing at the club on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old was suspended by the Blue Brazil last week after the details of nearly six years of alleged betting offences emerged.

It has been claimed by the Gambling Commission that Brett placed 2,787 bets on 6,369 football games, contravening SFA rules that prohibit players, coaches, club officials and referees in Scotland from betting on football anywhere in the world.

Cowdenbeath were particularly concerned by allegations that Brett placed 65 bets on matches involving the Blue Brazil, eight of which were on the Fifers to lose and five of those when Brett was playing.

The full-back, who has played nearly 200 games for the club, has publicly admitted to betting on football matches, including games involved Cowdenbeath, and has confessed to having a gambling problem.

He attended a meeting with manager Liam Fox and club officials at Central Park on Tuesday night but no immediate decision was made on a punishment.

Brett, who suffered heartbreak when his partner Gemma Porteous died of cancer in January 2015, just four months after prematurely-born daughter Mollie passed away, admitted before the hearing that he feared he could be sacked by the club he has played for since 2010.

He said: “The club wanted to hear what I had to say but I’m not sure when there will be an outcome.”
