Glasgow v Cambridge: how anti-Trump protesters mocked the President

THE cultural differences between anti-Trump protesters north and south of the border have been captured in a brilliant tweet.

An exquisitely polite and carefully punctuated poster in Cambridge points out: “Mr. Trump doesn’t seem to be a particularly pleasant gentleman.”

The same tweet contains a picture of a Glasgow protester holding up a sign which reads: “Yer maw was an immigrant, you absolute roaster.”

The two images were shared by Twitter user “Bethan” with the caption: “Glasgow vs Cambridge.”

The different approach was clear to see

The hilarious comparison has been retweeted nearly 17,000 times with a further 32,000 likes.

The Scottish poster refers to Trump’s mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who lived in the hebridean Island of Lewis, off the west coast of Scotland.

An online dictionary of Scottish terms lists a ‘roaster’ as: “Scottish slang. Can be used to describe someone who is making a complete c*** of themselves.

“One hearing being called this they should shut their trap.”

Twitter users shared other posters from around the UK which showed a strong preference for idiomatic English rather than the Queen’s.

Neil Jones shared an image of a sign from Edinburgh’s protest which read: “Away and sh**e Donald.”

Adam Banks posted an image of a cardboard poster from Newcastle which read: “Psst, the UK government is also canny racist.”

And Annie Garner shared a picture of a woman holding a sign in Manchester which stated: “Bun ya self Trump.”

Meanwhile, another famous university town produced a masterpiece of self-mocking understatement.

Eddie Wilson posted an image of a poster from St. Andrews which read: “You know it’s bad when it’s protested in St. Andrews.”
