COWDENBEATH have moved to try to ease their relegation worries by signing Rooney.
But, unfortunately for the Blue Brazil, the Rooney in question is not England and Manchester United captain Wayne but Northern Irishman Matthew.
The striker was on trial with St Mirren earlier in the season after impressing with a hat-trick in a trial match playing for the MSM Football Showcase side against Partick Thistle in November.
The 26-year-old former Northern Ireland under-18 cap, who has previously played for Derry City and Cliftonville, spent the first half of the season with Portadown and was once part of the Manchester United School of Excellence.
He said: “I’m delighted to make a fresh start with Cowdenbeath.”
The Central Park outfit are rooted to the foot of League Two and will face a nerve-shredding play-off to retain their SPFL status unless they can move off bottom spot before May.
