Commonwealth super lightweight champion Josh Taylor has discovered that he will fight Alfonso Olvera in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The bout, which is on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s WBA Super featherweight title rematch against Leo Santa Cruz, will be the eighth of the Taylor’s professional career.
Edinburgh-based Taylor, who is managed by boxing legend Barry McGuigan, continued his flawless record last October with an impressive fifth round stoppage of Dave Ryan to claim the Commonwealth belt.
Of Mexican-born Olvera’s 11 fights, the 27-year has won eight, lost two and drawn the other.
His most recent victory came in a points success over Jose Marrufo last August.
Confirming Taylor’s opponent, McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions tweeted: “Josh Taylor is once again on the big stage at the weekend. Josh will box Alfonso Olvera on Showtime Extreme.”
Taylor has been training alongside stablemate Frampton in Las Vegas since the start of the month.
Speaking recently, Taylor said: “It’s every fighter’s dream to fight in Vegas. It’s a massive card at one of boxing’s biggest stages, the MGM Grand.”
