Midfielder Robbie Muirhead insists he is delighted to be reunited with former Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson after leaving Tynecastle for MK Dons on a two-and-a-half year deal.
The 20-year-old completed his switch on Thursday evening after Hearts accepted an nominal fee for a player that still had six months to run on his contract in Gorgie.
Neilson brought the Scotland Under-19 cap to Hearts from Dundee United on a one-year deal last summer.
The left-sided attacking midfielder made six starts in a total of 18 Premiership appearances during the first half of the campaign and notched a memorable brace in November’s 2-0 victory over Rangers, Neilson’s last game in charge.
But Muirhead struggled to make an impact under new head coach Ian Cathro and is looking forward to starting afresh south of the border.
Muirhead said: “I’m happy to be here. It’s a new chapter in my career and hopefully I can kick on from now.
“I worked with Robbie for the past six months and as soon as I heard he was interested, I knew I wanted to sign for him again.”
Muirhead becomes Neilson’s first new recruit since taking on the reins at the tail end of last year.
Neilson said: “I know Robbie really well. When I was Hearts we managed to get him this summer and he became one of our key players.
“He’s still a young boy so it will take him some time to settle but he’s got real potential. He’s left-footed and is very good with the ball at his feet.
“This is an opportunity for him to come down to England and progress his career. I know he’s eager to take this next step and show everyone what he’s capable of.”
Muirhead is the fifth player to leave Hearts during the January transfer window, with Cathro having already sanctioned the departures of former captain Alim Ozturk, Igor Rossi, Tony Watt and Juanma.
However, up to four players could make their Hearts debuts in Sunday’s Scottish Cup fourth round clash at Raith Rovers, with defenders Aaron Hughes, Lennard Sowah and Andraz Struna, and midfielder Malaury Martin having all been recruited this month.
