SCOTTISH Tennis player Jamie Murray has revealed that a taxi driver mistook him for a lookalike of his younger brother and world number one – Sir Andy.
But Jamie revealed he got one over on his younger sibling when the Australian cabbie told him he was “better looking” than the recently knighted Wimbledon champion.
The pair are both in Melbourne competing in the Australian Open, which began today (Mon).
The taxi driver’s oversight is particularly cutting given that Jamie is currently hoping to defend the Men’s Doubles title he won in Oz last year, whilst Sir Andy has never won the singles competition down under.
Jamie posted about the amusing exchange, which took place between himself and an Uber driver, on Twitter this morning (Mon).
He said the exchange went as follows:
“Uber driver: ‘Hey, you look like Andy Murray.’
“Me – ‘Yeh I get that a lot.’
“Uber Driver – ‘You’re much better looking mind you.’ Cheers Mate!”
Twitter users then started a debate about who was the better looking Murray, with the majority opting for Jamie.
Lucia Cervera wrote: “I think Jamie is better looking but I deeply madly absolutely love Andy. And that is not because of his looks!”
Daniel O’Donnell added: “Yes you are [better looking]!”
Same Burrell quipped: “My girlfriend said the same about you when we saw you in Shanghai last year hitting on the practice courts (4th round).”
Laura Falder said: “Your twitter bio should now say, ‘the better looking version of Andy Murray.'”
The penny also dropped for fellow tennis star Liam Broady, who said: “Come to think of it you do look a bit like him.”
Jamie Murray, who is currently ranked as the fourth best doubles player in the world alongside partner Bruno Soares, will be kicking off his Australian campaign against American pair Sam Querry and Donald Young later this week.
Sir Andy, who was knighted in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list, started his campaign for a first Australian Open title with a straight sets victory against Ukrainian world number 74 Illya Marchenko this morning.
