BOBBY Barr is desperate to ease the pressure on Raith Rovers manager Gary Locke – and earn the bragging rights in his daily chats with his Morton opponents.
Barr left Morton in the summer to move to Stark’s Park and has watched his old team-mates go from strength to strength this season.
The Cappielow outfit reached the semi-final of the Betfred Cup before bowing out to Aberdeen and are currently well in the running for a shot at promotion in the league as they sit proudly in third.
Jim Duffy’s outfit have lost just once in their last 12 Championship outings and are unbeaten at home to earn the experienced boss plaudits galore.
But Barr is desperate for misfiring Rovers, who have suffered back-to-back defeats to Dunfermline and Falkirk, to put a spanner in Morton’s works as they seek their first victory in nine matches.
He said: “If we can beat Morton then we’re only three points behind them, so it’s a massive game for us.
“If you look at the run Morton are on just now they are just winning. They’re winning by the odd goal and that’s the kind of run we need to go on.
“They’re doing well and I’m not surprised. The manager there has instilled a belief in them that they’re hard to beat.
“I know they’ll work hard for each other. That’s one thing we had last season as well, we grafted every week, and they’ve just carried it on this season.
“They’ve got a good squad and a really good dressing room down there.
“I still stay in touch with the boys down there, I’m still close with a few of them. We’re in a group chat, five or six speak every day.

“They’re like anybody sitting third in the table, having been in a semi-final, they’re just loving life and they’re full of confidence just now.
“They’re doing well but hopefully we can stop their run this weekend.”
Raith have not won since October and have only netted three times in their last eight games.
It is not a record that makes for happy reading but Barr is adamant the Kirkcaldy men can pull through their difficult spell as they bid to emulate the play-off place they won last term.
The 28-year-old former Livingston winger added: “You need to stay positive. There’s no point in getting too down about it.
“Obviously, we’ve had two bad results at home in games we would expect to win, or not to lose at least.
“But the one thing about us is we have a good dressing room. The management staff are positive and we just need to put the results behind us and kick on.
“I would take a 1-0 win, with a horrible performance. It’s just all about getting results.”
