Hibs midfielder John McGinn insists the top of the table victory over Dundee United will mean nothing if they fail to follow it up with a win over Dumbarton.
The Scotland midfielder returned to action following a seven-week injury lay-off in last Friday’s 3-0 success over their Championship title rivals and capped his comeback with the third goal after climbing off the bench.
The Leith outfit were worthy winners and head coach Neil Lennon insists the performance was the best since he took over the reins from Alan Stubbs last summer.
He said: “Confidence is high but we’re not getting carried away, it’s a very tough venue against a good side.
“If we don’t win then Friday means nothing so we know how important it is, and the weeks after that to keep the consistency and keep the performances going.
“It was important for us to perform against United, I feel as if we’ve not hit the heights that we know we can. It was a complete performance against United.
“I think we’ve put down a real marker with how we can perform and if we play to that level then no-one will catch us this season.
“They’ll be frustrated with how they performed and we know they’ll come back with everything they can throw at other teams to try and catch us.”
Lennon, meanwhile, insists Martin Boyle needs to have more belief in himself after being impressed with the forward’s contribution since taking over at the helm.
The pacey former Dundee player has six goals to his name this season and even kept leading goal scorer Jason Cummings out the team at the tail end of last year.
Boyle was a handful against United and Lennon insists he has the attributes to cause any team problems.
Lennon added: “I know I have a very good player in Martin Boyle, he just needs to believe in himself a little bit more at times.
“I think he’s scored six goals this season and he’s a winger-cum-striker.
“I just like what he has, he’s direct, he’s fit and he’s always a threat. I thought he was brilliant against Dundee United.”
