Aberdeen youngster is left with fractured jaw & broken hand after horror collision while on loan at Raith Rovers

RAITH ROVERS goalkeeper Aaron Lennox is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a horrific collision during a friendly left him with a fractured jaw and a broken hand.

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Aberdeen, suffered the impact as he bravely stooped to make a save in a fixture against Dundee United’s under-20s side at St Andrews.

The towering Australian crashed into the onrushing attacker and had to be immediately taken to hospital, where his jaw was reset and he was treated for the severe injuries to his hand.

“Aaron Lennox has sustained significant injuries during a ‘bounce’ game against a Dundee United side,” a Raith club spokesperson stated, before confirming Lennox underwent surgery on Monday evening.

“The popular stopper took a boot to the face in a collision with a United player.

“He will also require dental reconstruction work. As if that was not enough, as a result of the same incident, Aaron has also sustained two broken bones in his hand. Aaron will be out of action for some time.”

The Rovers coaching and medical staff were last night reluctant to put an exact time-frame on Lennox’s absence as he embarks on his rehabilitation.

The young goalkeeper, meanwhile, attempted to see the funny side of the injury, joking that his only concern when he regained consciousness was whether he had managed to make the save.

He tweeted: “[It was a] 50/50 challenge, the boy doesn’t back out, I get there first. Boot breaks hand and moves it aside and follows with knee to face. First thing I asked when I came too was ‘did I save it?’ I did of course so not all bad!”
