American recreates iconic Eilean Donan castle from gingerbread and ice cream cones

AN AMERICAN tourist has managed to recreate an iconic Scottish castle made entirely out of gingerbread, icing and ice-cream cones.

Posting on social media, ‘Adam’ from Portland, Oregon, shared his images of the incredible gingerbread castle based on the stunning Eilean Donan Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

The amazing model castle took around three weeks to design and construct and was built on top of cardboard boxes.

The Highland castle replica features stairs, turrets and even chimneys made entirely out of gingerbread, icing sugar, ice-cream cones.

The remarkable design also features intricate windows sculpted into the gingerbread with small candy stained glass windows.

Although it is not an exact model of the infamous castle which dates back to the 13th century, the structure is an impressive tribute.

According to Adam, the inspiration for the project came after he visited Scotland with his fiance, Annie, in October last year.

Adam said: “Me and my fiance visited Scotland this past October and just loved all

of the picturesque castles we visited. This was one of our favorites so we decided to make this!

“It took us about three weeks to design it and build it. It’s not perfect model but we got as close as we could.

“We added lights inside of the structures so you can better see the stained glass candy windows we made.”

According to Adam, the couple wanted to create something that would remind them of their time spent in the country.

He continued: “My fiance Annie and I loved all the castles we saw in Scotland and wanted to make a little thing for the holidays to remind us of the amazing time we had there!”

The couples creation received praise from fellow social media users on Reddit.

One user posted: “The stained glass windows are a nice touch, looks great lit up from inside.”

Another wrote: “I do like it though. Are you from Denmark?”

Whilst one challenged the couple to try using haggis for their next project: “Challenge level two – recreate the Glenfinnan Aqueduct using only haggis suppers. Challenge accepted? PS you can use chippy sauce as glue, it’s all it’s good for”.

The iconic Eilean Donan castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world.

The stunning building attracts visitors from across the world who come to marvel at its stunning structures.
