Hibs midfielder Dylan McGeouch insists Dundee United will face new pressure as Championship leaders

HIBS midfielder Dylan McGeouch has paid tribute to the consistency that has seen Dundee United leapfrog them into top spot in the Championship.

But the former Celtic man has questioned whether the Tangerines will find it as easy now they have gone from the hunters to the hunted.

Hibs relinquished their place at the summit for the first time in over two months after being held to a frustrating draw with Raith Rovers on Christmas Eve.

At the same time, United were piecing together a 14th match undefeated and an eighth win in their last 10 league games with their 2-1 victory over St Mirren.

McGeouch admits their Tayside title rivals deserve huge praise for their run of form but, with the teams to face each other next Friday, is hopeful their lead will not last long.

He said: “You have to take your hat off to United, they are winning games and they are doing well, but we have to worry about ourselves.

“The squad we have and the ability we have is enough to see us through to the end of the season; we just need to get the performances out.

“We have the players, with the ability we have we should be doing better, but if we get it right and start putting the ball away then we are a very hard team to beat.

REVERSED

“We’ll keep an eye on other teams about us but if we get it right it will take a lot to stop us.”

Hibs face Falkirk on Saturday and United travel to face Dumbarton before the pair square up for the third time this season at Easter Road on January 6.

McGeouch added: “We have been top for a while, they’ve been on our tails and we’ve been looking over our shoulder but now it’s reversed. It could be a different scenario.

“There’s not a lot in it. It’s not as if there’s a big gap, it’s only a game and we have them at home when we’ll be looking to put that right.

“It might add a little difference to them being top and having to keep that consistency. Only time will tell in the next few weeks.”
