Falkirk goalkeeper Danny Rogers insists three points in the Boxing Day derby against Dunfermline can make up for missing out on a Christmas family gathering in Dublin.
The on loan Aberdeen shot-stopper will spend tomorrow preparing for the East End Park showdown after the clash had initially been scheduled to take place this afternoon.
The 22-year-old will have his girlfriend for company after she made the trip over the Irish Sea but Rogers admits not spending time with loved ones on Christmas Day is one of the worst parts of being a professional footballer.
“It’s actually the worst time of year to be a footballer. You’re used to it at this stage but I remember the first couple of seasons that I was sitting in my flat on my own and my parents were in Dublin. I was sitting there thinking, ‘I’ll order a Chinese now’.
“They’ll have a massive spread back home. They have my aunties and uncles round so that’s why they don’t come over and see me.
“I’m sure I’ll get Facetime from my ma, and she’ll be crying as usual. That’s probably the worst bit, that’s horrible.
“It’s all right, as long as we get the win.”
The Bairns desperately need a victory over Allan Johnston’s side to have any aspirations of reducing the nine point gap on current Championship leaders Hibs and Falkirk.
Peter Houston’s side were beaten in the play-off final by Kilmarnock last season after finishing runners-up behind Rangers and Rogers insists the league title is not beyond them.
He added: “We believe we can put pressure on them but we need to work on our own game to start with.
“We’ve not done too bad but we’ve not played well, we’ve kind of ground out results without playing well.
“At Dumbarton at the weekend we actually played well and lost.
“We need to find the balance somewhere.
“We can’t let them get any further ahead at this stage, we need to start picking up points and take points off them otherwise they’ll take off.”
