OLD Firm rivalries were put to one side for Christmas when Celtic superfan ‘Wee Jay’ met Rangers legend Arthur Numan.
Jay Beatty captured the hearts of the Parkhead faithful when Hoops hero Georgios Samaras picked him up and carried him round the pitch as the team celebrated their league title in 2014.
The 12-year-old has since become an ambassador for the Glasgow club and met a host of stars such as Paolo Nutini, Lionel Messi and Rod Stewart.
Now, the youngster from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, has added another famous face to that list – except this one made over 100 appearances for Rangers.
‘Wee Jay’ was at Celtic Park last Saturday to collect for the Celtic Foundation’s Christmas appeal to help the homeless when he met the Dutch defender in the restaurant.
His face is said to have fallen when Numan told Jay about his love for Rangers but nevertheless, the former Ibrox man made a nice donation to the cause.
Speaking about the encounter, Jay’s dad, Martin, said: “Jay had the honour of going round Celtic Park to raise money for the Celtic Foundation who were getting funds for homeless kids so they can get presents at Christmas.
“He was in the restaurant when he spotted Arthur Numan. I recognised him but Jay being a bit younger didn’t know who he was.
“He told Jay he had played for Rangers and he couldn’t believe it. He’s a Rangers legend and couldn’t have been nicer to Jay, he was a real gentleman.
“Jay asked him if he loved Celtic but when he told him he loved Rangers, his face dropped. Around 20 people were listening into their conversation.”
Jay, is an official ambassador of the club charity Celtic FC Foundation and was at the ground prior to Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Dundee.
During his visit he managed to gather donations from Celtic skipper Scott Brown, Dundee boss Paul Hartley and even managed to meet Santa Claus.
He was one of nearly 130 volunteers who were at the match to collect money to support homeless people at Christmas.
The footy mad Celtic fan is loved by players and staff at the club and even won an SPFL Goal of the Month award when he netted a half-time penalty at Hamilton last year.
Arthur Numan played for Rangers between 1998 and 2003 after signing for the Ibrox club in a £4.5million deal.
