WAITROSE have become the butt of online jokes yet again after a ‘Merry Christmas’ poster was spotted in one of their stores – above a shelf of condoms.
A photograph taken in one of their high-end stores shows the festive sign above the rows and rows of Durex condoms.
The Christmas sign behind them depicts a snowy scene as a man admires baubles on a tree and reads: “Merry Christmas from all of us at Waitrose.”
The snap of the festive ‘thin feel’, ‘extra feel’ and ‘extra safe’ condoms in their brightly coloured packaging emerged online yesterday although it is not known where the picture was taken.
The snap sparked a flurry of witty responses from amused users and has already gained 645 likes and nearly 100 shares.
James Beverley wrote: “These are essential at this time of year. Mainly for filling with water and throwing to deter carol singers.”
Elaine Fairclough commented: “Tis the season to buy johnnies.”
Billy Allman joked: “Oh cum all ye faithful…”
Terry Knights wrote: “Festive stuffing is always a seasonal favourite!”

A Waitrose spokeswoman said: “We have asked the branch to remove it.”
Earlier this year, the food retailer were once again the butt of the joke when they offered champagne on “sale”.
The store decided to reduce a bottle of Krug champagne by just £30 from £195 to a still not particularly affordable £165.
A snap of the discounted 75cl Brut Krug Rose went viral and prompted hundreds of scornful comments.
These included: “If I wanted wine I’d buy some Buckfast,” and “I’ll have two. I’m sure I’ve got some loose change in the bottom of my handbag!”
