Tragic footballer makes internet laugh with cheeky tweet about daughter

A FOOTBALLER who tragically lost one of his twin babies and girlfriend just seven months apart has made the internet smile with a hilarious tweet about his surviving daughter.

Cowdenbeath star Dean Brett lost his partner Gemma Porteous in January last year after a brave battle with spine cancer when she was just 22.

The devastating loss came just months after one of the couple’s young daughters, Mollie, died four weeks after being born prematurely.

But the proud father, from Tranent, East Lothian, has somehow managed to preserve his sense of humour.

The funny tweet got a good reaction on Twitter

Posting yesterday, the 24-year-old defender shared a picture of his surviving daughter, Mia, two, with the caption: “Can’t believe I made her in 25 seconds.”

The cute picture of little Mia shows her attempting to pout as she’s wrapped up in her pink winter scarf and hat whilst out on a walk with Dean.

Despite only appearing online yesterday afternoon, the funny tweet has already gained nearly 2,000 retweets and over 5,000 likes from the footballer’s amused followers.

Speaking about his tweet, Dean said: “I didn’t actually think the tweet would get so many likes but my phone has not stopped.”

Dean plays right-back for Cowdenbeath

Dean’s followers were quick to react to the cheeky tweet.

Scott Dowie joked: “Does that include the time it took to get undressed and upstairs?”

Roslyn Robertson wrote: “I’ve cooked asparagus for longer than that.”

Ross Gallacher commented: “Hope that involved foreplay!”

Whilst Nicole Kenny added: “Oh my god! This has made my day!”

Dean’s world changed forever when his twin daughters were born three months prematurely in June 2014.

Little Mollie lived for four weeks but sadly didn’t survive. Then after suffering from severe pain in her legs and back, Dean’s partner Gemma was diagnosed with spinal cancer.

She was admitted to hospital in September to remove the tumour but her condition sadly deteriorated and she died in January.

The defender is now bringing up his daughter Mia and plays as a right-back for Cowdenbeath in the Scottish League Two.
