Commonwealth super lightweight champion Josh Taylor has revealed he will be making a return to the ring on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s Las Vegas showdown next month.
And the Edinburgh fighter hopes to take another step towards realising his dream of becoming the headline act on boxing’s biggest stage when he fights on January 28.
Although the 25-year-old’s opponent is yet to be confirmed, Taylor admits there will be no belt up for grabs when he returns to action for the first time since being crowned Commonwealth champion in October following a fifth-round stoppage of Dave Ryan at Meadowbank.
Taylor said: “I’m over the moon that I’m on Carl’s undercard. It’s every fighter’s dream to fight in Vegas. I can’t wait to get over there and get stuck into training.
“It’s a massive card at one of boxing’s biggest stages, the MGM Grand.
“Hopefully this is the first of many trips going over to America and hopefully the first of many to Las Vegas as well.
“One day I want to be there myself headlining the bill on a massive card.
“We’ve not got any opponents confirmed as yet but I think it’ll be an American I’m up against.
“It does not matter who it is, I can’t wait for it. I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring and getting the exposure as well.
“I think it’s going to be on American TV. It’s a massive fight for me and it’s great for my profile as well. I couldn’t ask for a better start to my career.”
Taylor is also looking forward to learning from the best after admitting that he and stablemate Frampton will spend around four weeks training alongside each other in America in the build to their respective fights.
He added: “It will be great to get over there, experience it all and soak it all in.
“I’m watching and learning from Carl at the moment in terms of how he does it all. It’s a great experience.
“I think we’re going over there on January 2 so we’ll be there for nearly a month training and living in a house together as well, it’s going to be good.
“We’ll be going through the paces together and training hard together, it’ll be great.
“I’ve been ticking over up the road in Edinburgh but it’s back to the serious training now in London.”
