Hearts have another high-profile vacancy to fill after Brian Cormack stepped down as Foundation of Hearts chairman due to work commitments.

After Ian Cathro was appointed as the club’s new head coach on Tuesday, Cormack resigned from his position at the FoH and as one of two supporter representatives on the club board with immediate effect.

Cormack, who is involved in property and financial services, was one of the original founding members of the 8,000-strong Foundation, which is one course to realise its objective of becoming the majority shareholders of Hearts by 2020.

An election among the FoH members will determine Cormack’s successor although the Foundation’s board have identifed PricewaterhouseCoopers senior partner and life-long Hearts fan Stuart Wallace as an ideal candidate to fill the void.

Outgoing chairman Cormack, who replaced Ian Murray in May 2015, admits he will look back with immense pride over the role he played in helping take the club out of administration in 2014.

Cormack said: “It is obviously sad to be stepping down but it has been a real honour to have been a club director and chairman of the Foundation of Hearts.

“At the moment I have a lot of business commitments and will be travelling overseas over the next year, so I felt it was the right time for someone else to be able to put the time in that’s required.

“As a boy, you would dream of playing for Hearts but to become a director and help rebuild the club is just fantastic, a dream.

“It’s been an honour to have been involved in a board capacity alongside people like Ann Budge and Craig Levein.

“I believe Hearts have never been in a better position, on the business and football side.”
