BERWICK RANGERS hope family resemblance extends to the football pitch after snapping up Spanish striker Samuel Perez, the brother of Newcastle star Ayoze.
Perez, 26, was a young prospect with Murcia and went on to play on loan for the likes of Coruxo and Real Balompedica Linense in the third tier of Spanish football.
However, when Ayoze made the move from Tenerife to Newcastle in 2014, he joined his younger sibling in the north-east of England, penning a deal with non-league outfit Blyth Spartans.
After leaving Blyth, Samuel has now decided to try his luck in League Two of Scotland, making a quick-fire debut for Berwick in Tuesday evening’s 3-2 win over Stirling Albion.
“I am so happy to be a part of this team,” Perez said following his first outing for the Wee Rangers. “Thanks for everyone and it was a really good night. We won and I got my first 15 minutes on the pitch.”
