St Mirren manager Jack Ross insists being written off can help drive his team to Championship safety.

The Buddies fell to their tenth defeat of the season on Saturday after Falkirk came from behind to make the most of their numerical advantage in a 3-1 victory.

Ross’ side had made an encouraging start after taking the lead through Lewis Morgan’s 18th minute strike before the game turned in the Bairns’ favour in the 38th minute when Jack Baird was sent off for a punch on Lee Miller.

jackrossThe Paisley club can move within six points of ninth place Dunfermline if they overcome Queen of the South this evening and former Hearts youth coach Ross has urged his players to prove people wrong.

He said: “There is enough good things about the way we’re playing to believe we can go on a run of results.

“The motivation is that a lot of people have already written them off. They should use that at times when they’re feeling sorry for themselves.

“They should use that to drive on. I’ve got to do that as well, I’ve got to find something that drives me on, that belief and wanting to get the club out out of the situation we’re in, and I firmly believe we will get there.

“I enjoy games coming round, I think if we were losing games and not playing well you would look for that gap in-between because you feel you would have a huge number of things to rectify

“Because performances in the main have been good, I’m quite happy the games are coming round.”

Queens will have new manager Gary Naysmith in the dugout first time and will be bidding to end a woeful run of six straight league defeats, the latest being Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Dumbarton.

Doonhamers defender Andy Dowie said: “The boys are delighted we’ve got a manager and an assistant manager (Dougie Anderson) in now, I’m sure he’ll come with new ideas.”
