Michael Moffat aiming to put old club Ayr United to the sword as Dunfermline seek to climb Championship

MICHAEL Moffat is hopeful his luck is about to change and another goal against Ayr United can help propel Dunfermline above his old club this afternoon.

The 31-year-old made just his second start since August in last weekend’s Scottish Cup success against Highland League pace-setters Buckie Thistle and had a hand in two of the Pars’ goals in their 5-3 win.

He is hopeful his performance was enough to convince manager Allan Johnston he deserves to keep his place for this afternoon’s visit of his hometown team.

And, having broken his duck against the Honest Men last season after 18 months of trying, Moffat admits another strike would go down a treat today.

He said: “I went a while without scoring against Ayr and then managed to get one against them, so hopefully I can score again.

“But it will be a tough game. We’ve played them a lot recently and we know the quality they’ve got and the players they’ve got.

“If we win we can go above them, which is a good incentive to try to claw back some more points on the teams above us.

“I’ve been close to scoring in the last few weeks. Against Dundee United, I hit the post and then against St Mirren I came on and hit the post.

“Then, last Saturday, I went round the keeper and he brought me down, and then I gave Paul McMullan a tap in.

“So, hopefully there’s a goal coming.”

BONDING

Dunfermline are seeking a hat-trick of consecutive wins for the first time this season after last weekend’s Scottish Cup success against Buckie Thistle earned them back-to-back victories for the first time since July.

It is a start to life in the Championship that has tested the character and spirit in the squad at East End Park.

However, Moffat believes living in each other’s pockets for 24 hours last weekend can only be a good thing as they seek to hang on to that winning feeling.

He added: “It was good to get away with the boys for a bit of team bonding.

“We went up on Friday straight after training. The boys were playing cards and the PlayStation was there as well.

“So, there were a lot of competitions going on and it was good to get away as a group and get away from it for a wee bit – and we got into the next round which was the main thing.

“We’ve not really had much opportunity to get away together as a team, so it was good to get away.

“We’ve had a couple of wins, so hopefully we can kick on now and get a wee bit of a run going and pick up some momentum.”
