SCOTLAND will be hoping they have history on their side when they face Georgia at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon.

The full Scotland team have played seven home games away from their traditional base of Murrayfield in the modern era and have won five of those encounters.

Hampden Park, St Johnstone’s McDiarmid Park, Pittodrie in Aberdeen and today’s venue in Kilmarnock have all been used by the SRU in a bid to take the sport to other areas of the country.

Of the two defeats they have suffered on the road, the 31-17 loss to Australia at Hampden in 2004 would not have come as a massive surprise.

However, the current side will be seeking to avoid the kind of shock result that befell the national team in November 2012, when they went down to a 21-15 loss to Tonga at Pittodrie in a match that signalled the end of Andy Robinson’s spell as head coach.

In contrast, Scotland racked up an incredible 100-8 win over Japan in Perth in 2004 in the first international fixture to take place north of the Firth of Forth.

Today’s outing in Ayrshire will be the second visit the side has made to Rugby Park after they played the country’s first international on an artificial surface there in 2014.

Scotland’s record away from Murrayfield Stadium:

Aug 1999 Scotland 60-19 Romania Hampden Park
Nov 2004 Scotland 100-8 Japan McDiarmid Park
Nov 2004 Scotland 17-31 Australia Hampden Park
Nov 2008 Scotland 41-0 Canada Pittodrie Stadium
Nov 2010 Scotland 19-16 Samoa Pittodrie Stadium
Nov 2012 Scotland 15-21 Tonga Pittodrie Stadium
Nov 2014 Scotland 37-12 Tonga Rugby Park
