Red Bull Leipzig star Oliver Burke silences the doubters as Scotland star helps to knock Bayern Munich off their perch

OLIVER BURKE insists Red Bull Leipzig’s remarkable rise to the summit of the Bundesliga has silenced the snipers who questioned his switch to Germany.

Burke entered the fray as a second-half substitute last Friday night as RBL, in their maiden campaign in the top-flight, claimed a thrilling 3-2 win away to Bayer Leverkusen to knock Bayern Munich off top spot.

It continued the fairytale for the 19-year-old, who became Scotland’s most expensive footballer when he joined the club in a £13 million switch from Nottingham Forest in August.

Criticism from the likes of John Hartson, who suggested “I think that stinks of agents more than anything else” and Jermaine Jenas, who feared “it reeks of a young player being taken advantage of”, are now a distant memory.

And Burke told TheSetPieces.com: “Of course, it’s obviously proved everybody wrong and now I’ve really shown that I’ve come to a fantastic club.

“I don’t really need to say much really – look at where we are [in the table].

“It’s been very positive. Every day I’m learning something new and I can only get better.

“I have the right people around me and [I am] still at a young age. It’s all about learning now and becoming a better player. I can’t wait to see what the future brings.”
