Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark insists his side’s battling performance against Celtic has given him confidence that they can pull away from relegation trouble in the Premiership.

The Rugby Park outfit put up a brave fight against the runaway Premiership leaders on Friday evening but were beaten by a solitary Stuart Armstrong strike seconds before the break.

Clark’s side are only two points clear of basement strugglers Dundee, who they face on their next outing on December 3, in a congested bottom half of the table, having won only three of their opening 14 games.

leeclarkOne of those victories came against Hearts last month and Clark, whose side also drew with Rangers at home, admits the display against Brendan Rodgers’ side has given him hope that they can start climbing the table.

Clark said: “If my players deliver that kind of performance in the coming weeks, certainly in the seven games in 28 days in December, we’ll give ourselves a good opportunity to put ourselves in a good position in the league.

“It gives me great confidence for the rest of the season because we’ve had Rangers, Hearts and Celtic (at home) and put in three real good performances in different ways.

“The players are showing me that they’re listening to the work that’s been done during the week on the training pitch, they’re trying to take it into the game and at times we look a strong team.

“We look an organised team, sometimes the hardest part is putting the ball in the net and that’s what we found the other night.

“Brendan has taken them to a new level and you know you’re going to come under the cosh.

“We had opportunities but overall I was proud of the performance and delighted with what they gave.

“There are lots of positive to take, we’re disappointed we lost the game but we can look to the next games with confidence.”
