Hibs head coach Neil Lennon insists his team are hitting peak form at the right time as they prepare for a top of the table Championship showdown against Dundee United.

Former Celtic and Bolton boss Lennon described the weekend’s 4-0 thrashing of Queen of the South as one of the best that he has witnessed in his time in the dugout.

Lennon’s satisfaction over the manner of their victory was reinforced after learning that his team had extended their lead over United to three points ahead of the televised December 2 clash at Tannadice.

After enduring a five-game winless run, Hibs have now collected four victories in their last five league matches and Lennon admits he is delighted with what he is seeing from his side.

Lennon, whose team are not involved in the Scottish Cup this weekend, said: “I’ve got really good boys in there and they’re really starting to come to the boil now from my point of view, which is pleasing.

“I expect us to do well in this division and I’ve been pleased with how we’ve approached every game. I haven’t felt we’ve been in any trouble against the opposition.

“We’ve been playing well for over a month, the level of performance has been very high and I got everything I wanted from the team on Saturday.

“They’re getting better as the season is progressing, there is real strength, and the mentality is good.

“We’ve got a big game in two weeks’ time and that will be a big test for us.

“Regardless of what other teams do, at the minute I’m looking at what we’re doing.

“Whilst I was frustrated against Falkirk the previous week, the performance was really good. There is a hunger about them at the minute and they’re playing at a real high tempo that a lot of teams are struggling to live with.

“Their fitness levels are good and the football is very, very good.

“We’ve got a good core going forward. That’s what you have to do at this time of year, find that consistency.

“I have been really, really pleased with the consistency in the last five or six games.”
