Former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been offered the chance to remain in the MLS with LA Galaxy.

Amid suggestions that the 36-year-old could be reunited with ex-Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and talk of the Reds handing the player a coaching role, LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena is hoping both Gerrard and striker Robbie Keane pledge their future to club.

The Californian outfit’s season has come to an end following Sunday’s play-off defeat to Colorado Rapids and Gerrard’s contract has expired after 39 games and two campaigns with Galaxy.

Gerrard impressed at the weekend on his return from a two-month lay-off and Arena is keeping his fingers crossed that the midfielder will decide to remain in LA.

Arena said: “We were honoured to have Stevie here, as well as Robbie and are hopeful they continue to be part of our club.

“If Sunday was his last game, to finish the way he finished with that penalty and the 45 minutes he played after being out for close to to months, was pretty impressive.”

Speaking in May, Celtic manager Rodgers refused to rule out the possibility of signing Gerrard.

He said: “He was outstanding for me as a captain – so maybe one day. You want to work with the best people and he’s certainly one of the best.”
