PETER Houston has urged his Falkirk side to forget about their title rivals and focus on themselves as they bid to recover from their first back-to-back league defeats in 18 months.

Had results gone their way a fortnight ago, the Bairns – who strung together five straight wins in August and September – could have been top of the Championship.

Instead, after consecutive losses to Raith Rovers and Dundee United, Houston’s outfit have dropped out of the play-off places and now lie in sixth.

Saturday’s visitors, Morton, leapfrogged Falkirk into fourth with their Renfrewshire derby victory over St Mirren on Tuesday to leave just seven points separating six teams at the top of the second-tier.

With league leaders Hibs facing a tough trip to Ayr and Dundee United in second travelling to face Queen of the South, that could all change again this weekend.

However, Houston is desperate for his players to concentrate on their own efforts against the on-form Betfred Cup semi-finalists as they seek just a second win in six outings.

He said: “The bottom line is we need to get more consistency and get back to winning five, six games on the trot, which we did recently.

“We just need to get points on the board and not worry about Dundee United, Hibs, Raith Rovers, Queen of the South.

“Look after yourself, that’s what I always say and that starts on Saturday against Morton.

“All credit to Morton. Jim Duffy is an experienced manager. They’re very organised and have a couple of young guys up front who are very quick and hungry.

“Morton matches since they came back into the division have been tough and I expect no different.

“But we’ll be expected to go out there and get the points and that’s what we’re going to try to do, because we want to get back onto a winning streak.”
