PETER Houston is confident Falkirk can spark a recovery after they lost back-to-back matches in the league for the first time in 18 MONTHS.
The Bairns followed up a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home to Raith Rovers with Saturday’s last-gasp 1-0 reverse to Houston’s old side, Dundee United, at Tannadice.
It is the first time the Westfield men have gone down in successive Championship outings since away losses to Livingston and Queen of the South in April 2015.
However, Houston is convinced his side merited more from his return to Tayside at the weekend and has backed them to bounce back at home to Morton on Saturday.
He said: “I’ve watched Saturday’s match again and I’m not saying we deserved to win the match but I certainly felt we deserved a draw from the match.
“I felt gutted for the players. I was critical after the Raith Rovers game and I had every right to be, and they understood it.
“But I asked them to get back to the basics of working really hard as a team and defending properly, and they did that.
“I know that’s two games on the trot that we’ve lost but it’s 18 months since that happened and I know we’ll get a reaction, but we need to get a level of consistency every single week.”
COMEBACK
Meanwhile, the Bairns were handed a fitness boost on Monday when former Celtic youngster Lewis Kidd returned to training after suffering a foot injury in the 2-1 defeat to Dunfermline just over a fortnight ago.
The 21-year-old was left on crutches after a clash with Nicky Clark but has recovered, just as fellow right-back Aaron Muirhead made his comeback against United following a tidy-up knee operation.
Houston added: “Lewis Kidd has started back training with the first-team and it was great to see Aaron back at the weekend.
“We need everybody back fit and challenging and I thought Aaron did quite well.”
