JACK Ross insists he is excited by Tuesday’s evening’s derby clash with Morton and reckons it could be the ‘catalyst’ for a revival in St Mirren’s season.
Ross suffered a second successive defeat since taking over from Alex Rae when the Buddies went down 2-0 to Hibs at Easter Road at the weekend to keep them rooted to the foot of the Championship.
After enjoying a fortnight’s lay-off before Saturday’s trip to the capital, the Paisley men have no time to dwell on yet another loss as they prepare to travel to Cappielow for the Renfrewshire rivalry.
And Ross believes he has seen enough in his two games in charge so far to give him hope they can finally get their first league win of the campaign.
He said: “I’m genuinely excited by the prospect of the derby. I keep saying, I’m really enjoying this job and, even with the way results have gone in the two games, it hasn’t changed that one bit.
“And Tuesday’s game is something to look forward to.
“I believe that if we approach it in the way we have for the last two games then we have an extremely good chance of winning it.
“And it could be the catalyst for our season, given everything that surrounds the fixture and its importance to the fans.”

Ross began the season leading Alloa to 10 consecutive victories but has come in to a very different scenario at St Mirren, who are now without a win in 10 league matches.
Tonight’s rearranged fixture represents their game in hand on Dumbarton and Dunfermline immediately above them and Ross is confident his players have the quality to reverse their fortunes.
He added: “I’ve been on the other side of things, as recently as this season, and I know what it is like when you go on that roll.
“We have the quality in the dressing room to do that.
“The pleasing thing for me is the desire and commitment they have shown me in this two weeks and their energy in games. We’ll be fine once things click for us.”
