Alan Stubbs has been sacked as Rotherham manager just four months after leaving Hibs to join the English Championship side on a three-year deal.
The former Celtic defender has paid the price for a woeful start to the season, with the Millers six points adrift at the basement with only one win from 13 matches.
Stubbs created history at Easter Road after guiding the club to Scottish Cup glory in May for the first time in 114-years, but he also broke an unwanted 95-year record at the New York stadium.
Despite mounting pressure, Stubbs was defiant after their latest set-back at St Andrew’s, saying: “I’ve come to Rotherham and it’s a project. It certainly hasn’t gone the way I wanted it to. But if you’re looking for a quitter, you’re talking to the wrong guy.”
But chairman Tony Stewart had seen enough and the club announced on Wednesday afternoon that Stubbs, assistant manager John Doolan and coach Andy Holden had all been relieved of their duties.
The statement read: “Rotherham United have parted company with first team manager Alan Stubbs, assistant manager John Doolan and first team coach Andy Holden with immediate effect.
“Following a board meeting this morning it was felt that a change of first team management was needed to give the club the best possible opportunity to preserve our Championship status.
“The club would like to place on record our thanks to Alan, John and Andy for their effort and professionalism, and we wish them well for the future.
“The board have now started the process of appointing a new first team manager.”
