Limmy emerges as a more popular choice for Scotland boss than Strachan

SCOTTISH comedian Limmy has emerged as a more popular candidate for the job of Scotland manager than current boss Gordon Strachan.

A poll of around 1,500 fans conducted on Twitter last night (TUE) following Scotland’s loss in Slovakia, shows that almost ten times as many fans want Limmy to be manager, rather than Strachan.

The nation’s World Cup qualifying hopes were dealt a crippling blow when the Scots went down 3-0 in Trnava which followed a poor 1-1 draw against Lithuania at Hampden last weekend.

After the damaging defeat, a poll was launched on Twitter to find out who fans felt was better suited to the role of Scotland manager – Limmy, real name Brian Limond, or Strachan.

The poll, posted by football betting website Footy Accumulators, asked social media users: “Who’s more suited to be the Scotland manager?”

It told voters to retweet for Limmy, or like for Strachan, and 1,310 retweeted the Tweet, whilst only 144 liked it.

And Limmy appears ready to quit his comedy career and take the job on, as he retweeted the poll himself.

Several Twitter users congratulated Limmy, and said they would look forward to his tenure as manager.

@earlylevel wrote: “Look forward to the smart casual strips rather than that pink s*“, referencing the famous “Smart casual” sketch, from BBC Two Scotland’s Limmy’s Show!

Daniel Yates posted a link to one of Limmy’s videos, Limmy’s Guide to Glasgow: The Armadillo, and wrote: “This should be enough to warrant the job alone.”

One user, known simply as Spanner, said: “Smashing this Limmy.”

Others debated whether Limmy was the right man for the job.

Iain Lawrite said: “Strachan’s funnier though.”

One user, Sam Paterson suggested Limmy would not want to be manager, writing: “He wouldnae take it anyway.”

The Scots next qualification match is against England at Wembley next month, where a win is needed to get the Dark Blues’ campaign back on track.
