Rotherham manager Alan Stubbs has criticised Scott Allan’s attitude and insists the on loan Celtic midfielder needs to reflect on his recent performances.

Allan has made a total of eight appearances for the Millers since joining on a season-long deal at the start of last month but was not even included in the squad for Saturday’s defeat to Cardiff and Tuesday’s loss at Huddersfield.

Stubbs got the best out of Allan at Hibs during the 2014/15 after the 24-year-old was named the Championship’s PFA Player of the Year and earned a switch to Parkhead.

But with Rotherham rooted to the English Championship basement having won just one of their opening ten matches, Stubbs is demanding more from the playmaker.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Stubbs, who has also dropped Jake Forster-Caskey, said: “The one thing I expect is 100 per cent commitment. I want to see that players care. I want to see character.

“If they give me that, then if they have a poor game I can accept that all day long.

“Nobody can play brilliantly every week. I understand that. That’s life.

“An element of Scott not being in the squad against Cardiff was a reaction to what I saw against Blackburn (a week earlier).

“We just left him out of the squad to reflect on his performances. He’s someone we feel has a lot more to offer than he is showing right now.

“Jake’s in a similar situation. The shirt has to mean something. If you don’t take your opportunity, you can’t have any complaints.

“They have to take it on board. Right now, we don’t have time for anyone feeling sorry for themselves.”
