Grant Anderson adamant the visit of Hibernian is the perfect chance for Queen of the South to make amends for Rangers horrorshow

GRANT ANDERSON reckons the visit of Hibernian is the perfect fixture for Queen of the South to shake off their Rangers hangover.

Gavin Skelton’s men saw their blistering start to the season come to a shuddering halt on Tuesday in a 5-0 hammering at Ibrox in the Betfred Cup.

Anderson admits Queens were confident they could cause an upset in Govan but, after enduring a miserable night, he believes a top-of-the-table clash with the Hibees is the ideal opportunity to make amends.

Palmerston Park 1000px“We want to get Tuesday night out of our system and get back to winning ways as quickly as possible,” said the former Raith Rovers wide-man.

“We had started the season well, and perhaps Rangers hadn’t enjoyed the best start to their season, so we went there with high hopes that we could cause a wee upset or at least put on a good performance.

“Unfortunately, neither happened and now we need to dust ourselves off. The league has always been our priority and it’s about how we respond to that set-back.

“But Hibs is a great game to have so soon after Ibrox. It is a big match, high-profile opponents and first against second, so it is easy to get yourself up for that one.”

Despite being on the end of Rangers’ five-star showing in midweek, Queens have been the surprise package of the Championship this term and are currently on a five game winning streak.

While Anderson is adamant title-talk is premature, he admits that the Dumfries outfit will target top-spot this season – knowing that a playoff place would be ample consolation.

“It’s early doors and our aim will be to win every game we play,” said Anderson. “If that is enough to give us a shot at winning the title, then fantastic.

“We’ll set ourselves the highest targets possible and if we end up in the playoffs, then great, because that was always our aim at the start of the season.”
