Scots couple selling copy of £31m Jack Nicholson movie house for less than £1m

A REPLICA of a US beach house which featured in a Jack Nicholson movie is up for grabs in Scotland – at a 30th of the price.

The property in Lanark is an exact copy of the £31m Long Island beach house from Something’s Gotta Give.

The main differences are that the Scottish property costs just £925,000 – and it’s 35 miles from the sea.

576 Meadow Lane in the Hamptons area of Long Island, New York State, was sold off for £31m two years ago.

The staggering figure it fetched was thanks to its location in the hyper-exclusive holiday spot, and the fact that it was the setting for the Jack Nicholson film Something’s Gotta Give.
Mark and Carole Rutherford were inspired to recreate the beachfront property after watching the 2003 film.

Mr Rutherford said: “We loved the Hamptons beach house in Something’s Gotta Give, and it inspired us to build our own home.

“It seemed like a bit of a long shot at first, to create a Hamptons beach house in Scotland.

“We did lots of research and eventually found a company, Log and Cedar Homes in Doune, who we liked.

“At the time we were living in a 300 year-old house nearby, so we felt like a change. And this really was a change.

“There are more than 50 windows throughout the house and the views are wonderful – over the Clyde Valley.”

The home and property features a sprawling drive, which brings you to the raised main building, surrounded by a verandah.

The kitchen includes handcrafted cabinets and marble worktops.

On the ground floor there is also a TV room and a study, whilst upstairs there are four en-suite double bedrooms.

Each has a high vaulted ceiling, with exposed beams, whilst one also comes with a second living room and a separate mezzanine level.

The sale – being managed by property agent Savills – will also include two self-contained apartments, a three-car garage, a studio and a multimedia room.

Mr Rutherford has also built an outside wine cellar for the house.

The Lanark postcode is significantly more affordable than the Hamptons, where houses can fetch as much as £106m.

The area is a popular summer spot for affluent members of high society from New York – which is just two hours drive south.

Designer Calvin Klein, David Koch of Koch Industries and Jennifer Lopez have all bought properties in the area.

Hotel mogul Jimmy Tisch now owns the Something’s Gotta Give original house.

The box office hit saw Nicholson find love with Diane Keaton’s character in later life, despite the pair having polar opposite personalities.

Keaton plays Erica Barry, a divorced Broadway playwright who partly lives in a house in the Hamptons.
