Freed Celtic kid sets sights on Dunfermline 1st-team after penning short-term deal

CIARAN Lafferty has his sights set on the Dunfermline first-team after Celtic stars made it difficult to even play for the Hoops’ under-20s.

The 19-year-old left Parkhead in the summer and has been snapped up by the Pars on a short-term deal until January.

The striker impressed Fifers boss Allan Johnston in the PFA Scotland exit trials over the summer and did enough in a training stint at East End Park to earn a contract.

A goal in a closed-doors game against Dundee last week helped seal an agreement and the youngster is now keen to prove he is good enough to make the step up to the Dunfermline top-team.

He told www.dafc.co.uk: “It was time to move on (from Celtic). I didn’t play much in the last couple of years.

“I had injuries but they had a big (under-20s) squad. First-team players who didn’t get a game would come down and play. It was quite hard to get in the team.

“If I do well for the under-20s I will be involved with the first-team a lot more (here). That is what I am aiming for.”
