Former Celtic starlet Darnell Fisher reveals Scott Allan helped to sell him on working with Alan Stubbs at Rotherham

DARNELL FISHER has revealed Scott Allan sold him on a switch to Rotherham United with rave reviews about Alan Stubbs.

The 22-year-old completed his move from Celtic on Wednesday night, penning a three-year contract with the SkyBet Championship outfit.

Promising right-back Fisher made 21 appearances for the Hoops following his debut in 2013 but failed to make a first-team berth his own, spending last season with St Johnstone.

And Allan, who is on loan at Rotherham from Celtic and a firm favourite of Stubbs after they worked together at Hibernian, convinced him the New York Stadium was the right move.

Fisher told United’s official website: “I spoke to Scott Allan and he had good things to say about the management and the setup here.

“I have spoken to a lot of the boys who have played under Alan Stubbs at Hibs as well and they all spoke highly of him.

“I spoke to the manager [Stubbs] on Sunday and now I am just glad that it is all done, and I am very happy to be part of this club.

“I went to Scotland when I was 16 so I am happy to be coming back to England. I am now looking to kick on and show what I am about. I am looking forward to improving as a player.”

Fisher becomes Stubbs’ eight summer signing at Rotherham United and could go straight into the Millers’ squad for tomorrow afternoon’s mouth-watering trip to Aston Villa.

Stubbs added: “Darnell is very athletic, he will provide competition for places and is a modern day full-back – very quick.

“He will get up the pitch, he has played at Celtic and it is a huge club and we have given him an opportunity to come here and fight for a place and push Kells (Stephen Kelly).”
