SCOTLAND defender Gordon Greer is bidding to win a move to Blackburn Rovers after joining the English Championship side on trial.
The 35-year-old, who is out of contract after being released by Brighton at the end of last term, has teamed up with Owen Coyle’s squad for training and played the second-half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool.
The experienced stopper spent two years with Rovers early in his career after moving south from Clyde in a £250,000 switch in 2001 and Coyle believes his countryman deserves the rest of pre-season to try to seal a return.
Coyle told www.rovers.co.uk: “Gordon did fine. I spoke to him on Friday night and he only came in on Saturday morning and met the group, but we know he’s a consummate professional and he’s had a wonderful career.
“He played at a very high level last season with Brighton, who only narrowly missed out on promotion, and you saw the quality of his play.
“He wanted to come in and show that he wants to be part of it, so we’ll give him the opportunity to do that in the next couple of weeks.
“But we’ll continue to monitor and look at other things and other players who we think we can add to the squad.”
