Jason Cummings has ended speculation about his future after signing a new lucrative four-year deal at Hibs, and insisted he never wanted to leave.

The highly-rated striker put pen to paper last night on the eve of the Leith outfit’s Europa League visit of Danish club Brondby.

After netting 48 goals in two seasons at Easter Road, the 20-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire next summer, had been linked with a string of teams south of the border, and Turkish side Trabzonspor.

New Hibs head coach Neil Lennon made re-signing the marksman his priority and invited the youngster to Paris for face-to-face talks while the former Celtic boss was working as a pundit at Euro 2016.

That move has paid off after Cummings committed himself to a contract that runs until 2020.

Cummings said: “I am delighted to have signed the new deal with Hibernian.

“There was never any doubt in my mind over where I wanted to be this season, and I’m relieved to get it over the line.

“I feel my game has developed a lot over the last few seasons, and I’m looking forward to continuing to progress under the new manager.

“Everyone is buzzing after the Scottish Cup win, from the players to the supporters, and I’m sure we can achieve more over the coming years.”
