Motherwell manager Mark McGhee admits striker Louis Moult will undergo further tests after being plagued by a persistent groin problem.
The injury first flared up at the tail end of last season although a scan of the area showed nothing untoward.
But after Moult, who scored 18 goals last term after joining from Wrexham, was troubled by the problem during Saturdayâs pre-season win at Dumbarton, McGhee admits the 24-year-old needs to be reexamined.
McGhee, who subsequently omitted Moult from Sundayâs defeat at Hibs, said: “Heâs been having trouble with his groin, which started last season and is still lingering.
âHe had a scan and it didnât show anything but he played for a half at Dumbarton on Saturday and said afterwards that he was still feeling it.
âSo weâre going to do some more exploration with that to find out whatâs going on.
âTowards the end of last season, the final six or seven games, I had expected him to kick on and score more than 20 goals.
âBut he never did. He seemed to taper off and, looking back, I think this was at the root of it.
âHere we are, three months later, and heâs still suffering from it. Thatâs a worry so weâre going to have that investigated thoroughly before we ask him to play again.â
