COWDENBEATH have snapped up experienced defender Gerry McLauchlan.
The former Ayr United, Brechin City, Queen of the South and Hamilton Accies stopper played in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Alloa Athletic and has further bolstered the squad being pieced together by new manager Liam Fox.
McLauchlan joins the likes of Burton O’Brien, David Robertson, Chris Turner and Greg Ross at the Blue Brazil, who kick-off the competitive action with a League Cup clash with Inverness next Saturday.
Fox told Capital City Press: “Gerry has signed, we’ve agreed a deal. He was down as a trialist because the paperwork hasn’t quite gone through but everything’s done and dusted.
“He’s been about and he’s an experienced player, who is good in the changing room, and I know what I’m going to get from him.”
McLauchlan was at fault as Cowdenbeath lost to Alloa, mis-kicking to allow Greig Spence to clip in the winner after Kevin Cawley had cancelled out Gary Glen’s opener for the Fifers.
After a morale-boosting 1-1 draw with Hearts and a 3-1 win over Motherwell, the defeat was a setback for Cowdenbeath as they build up to the start of the Betfred Cup group stages on Saturday.
But Fox added: “There were a few good positives to take from the game but there’s also some things we need to work on and get better at.
“We didn’t get too high when we had two good results against Hearts and Motherwell and we’re not going to get too low after this result.”
