Neil Lennon hands Alex Harris chance to resurrect Hibs career

NEIL Lennon hopes Alex Harris can find the consistency needed to become a star after offering him the chance to resurrect his Hibs career.

The 21-year-old burst onto the scene after making his first-team debut in October 2012 and lit up an astonishing Scottish Cup semi-final comeback against Falkirk later that season.

The winger’s displays caught the eye of Lennon at the time but he has largely been unable to recreate those hugely impressive performances in recent times.

The Scotland under-19 cap fell out of favour under Lennon’s predecessor, Alan Stubbs, and was farmed out on loan for the whole of last season to Queen of the South, where he made 20 starts.

However, Lennon has revealed he is an admirer of the pacy youngster and has urged him to produce his A game on a more regular basis.

The former Celtic boss said: “I like Alex Harris, I think he’s a good player, and I thought he was very good (against Berwick Rangers) on Tuesday night.

“I liked him two years ago but, for whatever reason, he’s lost his way a little bit.

“But you can see what he brings to the team.

“We certainly think we’ve got a decent player there, if he can be consistent in his game – because he’s certainly got the game.”

Urgency

Although he played a 4-2-3-1 formation in the 6-1 win over Edinburgh City on Thursday night, Lennon has talked of his preference for playing two strikers.

And, with target man Grant Holt already on board, he has hinted he may be keen to play with wingers in the coming season.

He added: “Martin Boyle as well has got a bit of something about him.

“But it will be horses for courses as we go along.

“I just wanted to get some legs in the team and a bit of direction, a bit more urgency and a bit more pace.

“Those two have certainly got that.

“Sometimes we do tend to play in front of teams and that’s something we’ll have to correct.”
