Willie Collum’s Euro 2016 campaign is over after he was named as one of six referees sent home from France.
The divisive Scottish whistler took charge of two matches in the group phase, overseeing Turkey’s victory against the Czech Republic and the hosts’ 2-0 triumph over Albania in Marseille.
However, Collum was overlooked for the round of 16 and it was last night confirmed that his team of officials – including compatriots Francis Connor, Bobby Madden, John Beaton and Irishman Damien MacGraith – have left the tournament.
Despite his card-happy domestic reputation, Collum adopted a lenient approach during his outings, dishing out eight cautions in two matches and steering clear of controversy.
Ovidiu Hategan of Romania, Russia’s Sergei Karasev’s, Czech referee Pavel Kralovec, Svein Oddvar Moen of Norway and French whistler Clement Turpin have also been released.
