Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot insists he is eager to learn from new boss Alan Stubbs after penning a two-year contract extension at Rotherham United.

The 31-year-old, who has emerged as a key man in the Millers back-line followings his arrival in 2014, ended uncertainty over his future by agreeing a new deal this week.

And the Scotland internationalist admits he is buoyed by the prospect of working with Stubbs, who starred at centre-back for the likes of Bolton, Celtic and Everton during his playing days.

Broadfoot beamed: “I’m looking forward to playing under the new manager, especially with him being a centre half in his playing career at the top level and I’m always looking to learn.

“I spoke to a few boys that he’s managed at Hibs and they all speak highly of him so I’m looking forward to getting started.

“I’ve loved my time at Rotherham since I’ve been here. I’m delighted to get it over the line and it’s taken a bit of time to get it done but that was nothing to do with myself or the club it was more personal family reasons.”

After a fraught fight against relegation last term, which required a stellar finale to the Championship campaign under Neil Warnock, Broadfoot hopes the coming campaign under Stubbs will bring a surge up the table.

He told Rotherham’s official website: “You can’t stay static in a competitive league like the Championship because if you do you get left behind. Hopefully we can push forward now.

“You look forward to every season and hopefully the manager to can push us up the league. We’re getting players in who are a good fit for the club and can improve the squad.”
