Dumbarton have completed the signing of former Hearts and Falkirk winger David Smith on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old was released by the Bairns last month following an inconsistent two seasons under Peter Houston, scoring four goals in 51 outings – albeit largely from the substitutes bench.
He did, however, start the 2015 Scottish Cup final against Inverness, with Falkirk succumbing to an agonising 2-1 defeat.
Smith, who boasts four Scotland under-21 caps, was also a bit-part player at Hearts after emerging through the Jambos’ academy, playing 40 times for the club and being farmed out on loan to Raith Rovers on two occasions.
Nevertheless, Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken is adamant the signing of Smith is a coup for the Sons after revealing he fought off “significant interest” from other suitors for the youngster’s services.
