15ft penis sprayed on to road in protest at potholes

A FURIOUS motorist has tried to shame council bosses into fixing potholes – by painting a 15ft willy on the road.

Louis Nelson, 36, from Carluke, South Lanarkshire, spotted the graffiti whilst driving in the Scottish borders.

The graphic image was permanently spray-painted onto Granites Road near the town of Innerleithen.

It is thought to have appeared as a result of the pothole-riddled car park just to the side of the road.

The protest echoes a similar campaign carried out by the Manchester-based “W***sy” last year, who drew penises around potholes.

Mr Nelson expressed his surprise at spotting the strange protest pic but said he “had to laugh” at the Scottish sense of humour.

He said: “I couldn’t help but think who in their right mind does this in such a beautiful location.

“Us Scots, we’re always having a laugh.”

He continued: “I took the photo on Granites Road, just up from Innerleithen at the Piper’s Grave.

“People were saying it’s been done to try and get the council to fix the roads.

“I reckon it was probably for the car park just to the side of the picture. It was pretty bad with lots of big potholes.”

Facebook users were quick to give their own take on the penis painting protest.

Whilst Jason Goulden said: “Watch out for willies on the road.”

To which Sharon Macneil replied: “No need with cat’s eyes.”

And Liz Troup asked: “Dae ye like the Boaby?”

Responsibility

A Scottish Borders Council spokesman said: “The council has a responsibility to maintain the road network in a safe condition and any potholes identified will be repaired as part of a programme of works.

“The council has already carried out significant repairs to the B709 road, known locally as Granite’s Road, following last winter’s flooding.

“The offending graffiti will be removed from the road as soon as possible.”

This isn’t the first time someone has spray-painted a penis to highlight the problem potholes to their local council.

Last year, in Manchester, a vigilante known only as “W***sy”, began spray painting penises around potholes in an attempt to get them fixed.

Interestingly, “W***sy” confirmed that one of the potholes he highlighted was fixed just 48 hours later, despite it being left for around eight months before his painting appeared.
