Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has paraded former Dundee United and Kilmarnock forward Robbie Muirhead as his first summer signing.
The 20-year-old has inked a 12-month deal with the Tynecastle outfit after being freed by United at the end of last season.
Capped four times at Scotland Under-19 level, Muirhead began his career at Kilmarnock before moving to Tannadice in a £150,000 switch in January 2015.
But the youngster struggled to make an impact on Tayside, making only 16 league appearances, and spent the first half of last season on loan at Patrick Thistle.
Muirhead, speaking to heartsfc.co.uk, said: “The gaffer says I need to work hard, first and foremost. Everything’s down to me. The last 18 months haven’t been ideal.
“I have a lot to prove, not just to myself but to a lot of people in and around people who have maybe doubted me.
“I’m delighted to be here. I’m buzzing to sign and have been since it was finalised. I’ve spoken to a few boys who have been up here in the past and they all said exactly the same thing – it’s a massive club. It’s a great club to have on your CV. It’s one of the places you want to play.
“John Souttar messaged me on Sunday. He told me when he first came here that the training was a lot harder than he was used to and that he had to sleep for 15 hours a day to begin with. I’ve followed him to my last two clubs so he’s asked me to keep my distance in training.”
Neilson, who is also expected to confirm the signings of striker Conor Sammon and defender Fayal Rherras in the coming days, said: “I’m happy to get Robbie signed up for next season.
“To get a player of his quality in for free represents great value, and I know he’s desperate to do well here.
“He knows the Premiership well and has real potential.
“He’s at an age now where that potential has to be carried through and I think this is the perfect place for him to do it. It’s win-win for all parties.”
