OUTLANDER fans have the opportunity of a lifetime working alongside their heroes on the filming of the smash-hit TV show’s new series.
Up to 20 trainees will earn the equivalent of around £21,000-a-year to rub shoulders with stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe while learning film-making skills.
The jobs, which will run from August to March next year, will be based at the Outlander production office in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire.
The new recruits will help make the third season of the hit show.
An online advert for the positions promised to give successful applicants the essential skills needed for a career in production as they shadow “some of the finest technicians in the film and television industry”.
The roles on offer range from costume makers and painters, to prop makers and lighting trainees.
Trainees will receive a training bursary of £395 per week which equates to a salary of nearly £21,000 per year.
However, the job description does say that the nature of the roles on offer can vary, with successful applicants working up to 60 hours a week, which would mean a salary of just £6.58 an hour.
There will no doubt be a flood of applicants for the role, who have to upload their cv and covering letter by 9am on June 13.
The advert says that trainees will get “the experience of working in a real filming environment”, which they say, “will create a strong platform for trainees to embark on successful careers in this industry.”
Successful applicants will have to be “normally resident” in Scotland as the studio is based in Cumbernauld, over 18 years old and have a basic understanding of the film and television industry.
Outlander is based on the cult historical novels by American writer Diana Gabaldon and is one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime, an online streaming service.
It tells the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 forced to marry Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan.
It has been filmed at locations all over Scotland including including Doune Castle near Dunblane, Falkland and Culross in Fife, Blackness Castle in West Lothian and the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore.
